“At first I was convinced it was a wind up” - Meet Kerry, our latest £20,000 winner

Paint on her hands, a hallway half-finished - and a phone call that was about to change everything

Less than a month into their new home, Kerry Young and husband Dean were up to their elbows in paint when Kerry’s phone rang. The couple had spent years dreaming about moving to Cornwall, had finally made it happen, and were now getting stuck into the renovations - brushes in hand, hallway half-done.

Then everything stopped.

Kerry had just become our May Monthly Subscriber Draw Winner, taking home an incredible £20,000!

“At first I was convinced it was a wind-up,” she said. “I never thought it would be me.”

It wasn’t a wind up. Not even close.

From Coventry to Cornwall… with a lot to celebrate

Kerry and Dean met at work, married nearly 25 years ago, and built a life together raising four children. Moving to Saltash had always been the dream, and when they finally arrived, they brought all of that history with them.

The new house needed work. The couple had already started going through the renovation list, quietly wondering which bits might have to wait. Then the phone rang, and suddenly nothing needed to wait anymore.

“This is such a relief for us!” Kerry said. “It’s amazing because we can now confidently complete the new house renovations.”

The prize money comes in at almost exactly what they need to get everything done. Sometimes the timing really is perfect.

The entry built for someone else

Kerry came across The Birthday Draw, and like many players, thought she’d give it a go and see what happened. Signing up as a subscriber earlier this year, Kerry was able to gain access to our exclusive Subscriber Draw and additional opportunities to win.

“I thought, ‘let’s see what happens’, but I wasn’t expecting anything.”

When it came to putting her entry together though, she knew exactly what she wanted to do. She used her daughter’s birthday as the date, her daughter’s initial, and chose blue to represent the colour of the RAF, where her daughter proudly serves. It was a deeply personal choice for Kerry, created with her daughter in mind after everything their family had been through after her daughter’s battle with cancer last year.

Kerry was wearing a necklace on the day of the call that read “2025 sucks, 2026 slays” - words that had become especially meaningful for Kerry and her daughter over the past year. It matched a bracelet her daughter wears, after the pair had bought them together to become a shared symbol of hope between them and a reminder that brighter days were ahead.

As it turns out, 2026 had something rather good lined up.

What is The Birthday Draw?

Never heard of The Birthday Draw? Here’s how it works!

The Birthday Draw is a weekly prize draw brought to you by ITV and Global, giving players across the UK the chance to win life-changing cash prizes, including a £1 million* jackpot.

To enter, you just choose a date, pick an initial, and select a colour to build your own personalised entry. Each extra colour you add gives you another entry, and another chance to win, with entries starting at £1.

Kerry’s entry cost her £1 and was built around her daughter. The rest, as they say, is history.

Pub first. Party later

Kerry and Dean headed straight to the pub after the call - just the two of them, raising a glass to a win neither had expected.
The bigger celebration is being saved for the summer, when their daughter visits and the whole family can get together properly. Kerry and Dean are also planning to share some of the winnings with their children, because when luck like this comes in, you bring everyone along for the ride.

The hallway, needless to say, will be finished exactly the way they want it.

Kerry never expected a lick of paint and a ringing phone to change her week. Not bad for a £1 entry built around those she loves the most!
